With their academic heritage, the Cours de Civilisation Française de la Sorbonne (CCFS) stem from a long academic tradition. The CCFS are labeled “Qualité FLE,” a quality label awarded by three French ministries, corresponding to quality criteria in pedagogy and services.

Courses take place on the campuses of these three partner institutions, located in the heart of Paris, ideal locations for cultural outings to museums, galleries, and many other cultural institutions.

This preparatory year is a unique opportunity for students who do not yet have the required level of French. It prepares them both linguistically and culturally to enter art and design schools. In addition to mastering the language, students develop a work methodology essential for success in demanding schools.

Course objectives

A comprehensive training to enter the best art and design schools.

At the end of this preparatory year, students will be able to:

  • Understand and express themselves in French, both orally and in writing, in academic and artistic contexts.
  • Utilize linguistic and methodological skills to follow higher education in applied arts.
  • Analyze a request or an artistic work by applying cultural, aesthetic, and historical codes.
  • Develop a critical eye and personal reflection on various artistic productions.
  • Present an artistic project with reasoned arguments, both orally and in writing, in French or in a multilingual context.
  • Collaborate in an intercultural framework, considering others’ cultural and artistic references.
  • Integrate into an art school curriculum by mastering the necessary linguistic, cultural, and professional foundations for success.

Detailed program

The preparatory class in applied arts is offered annually in September.
Lasting one year (640 hours), it comprises two semesters:

  • First semester at IESA and CCFS
  • Second semester at LISAA and CCFS

  • Visits to Parisian exhibitions with a French teacher and creation of illustrated reports
  • Artistic project management course
  • Thematic projects and personal research
  • FAB LAB – Artistic practice workshop
  • Studio photography and smartphone reporting course
  • Applied Risography workshop
  • Applied Screen Printing workshop
  • Portfolio Coaching – Personal Branding
  • Writing CVs, cover letters & artistic biographies in French
  • Interview Coaching & Training in French
  • Specialty courses: art history, European civilization, introduction to performing arts, introduction to cinema, introduction to music, introduction to performing arts in collaboration with Cours Florent
  • Introduction to specialization fields
  • Personalized follow-up

Further Studies

At the end of this program, students have the opportunity to continue their studies in Fashion, Graphic Design, Design, and Interior Architecture programs at LISAA, other universities, or art schools.

Validation of Acquired Skills

  • Continuous assessment (regular evaluation of work and progress).
  • Final examination.
  • A language certificate from the Cours de Civilisation Française de la Sorbonne is awarded upon success.

Prerequisites

  • A B1 level in French is required to follow this program.
  • Must be at least 18 years old, hold a diploma or certificate of completion of secondary education.
  • Compliance with residency formalities (nationality, visa, residence permit, etc.) is also necessary.

Visa

This course meets the criteria for obtaining a student visa for non-European Union students.

Application requirements

Students must download and complete the application file directly on the IESA arts&culture website.

Admission session and admission committee:
– Candidates are invited to an admission session: individual test and interview.
– The committee, comprising admissions officers and the pedagogical management, meets weekly to decide on applications. It immediately informs the candidate of their admission and sends them their registration file.
